2013 Oscars Style

Just popping to to give a quick rundown of my favorite (and least favorite) Oscar gowns. If there's one thing I can't resist, it's a good ball gown. And ice cream. But that's beside the point. Moving on...

Best Dressed:

Amy Adams in Oscar De La Renta. Hands down, best dress of the night. Love the ruffles, love the dove grey color, love the textured bodice. Win.

Catherine Zeta-Jones in Zuhair Murad. If there's one thing CZJ does well, it's serving Old Hollywood glamour on the red carpet. Gorgeous.

Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab. Elie Saab can do no wrong in my book. I feel like this is a sexier look than we've seen her go for previously, and the risk paid off. She looked amazing.

Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive. The more I look at this dress the more I like it. The simple shape paired with the intricate beaded overlay is fantastic and those red lips are so sexy!

Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille. Ugh. Zoe Saldana is SO BEAUTIFUL. She could wear a garbage bag and look great, but I adore the multi-tonal ruffle and the floral applique top. Wish she would have lost the belt, though.

Worst Dressed:

Brandi Glanville in BrandiB, her own line. When in doubt, leave it to the professionals. And put those boobies away. You are at the Oscars, not a high class hooker convention.

Melissa McCarthy in David Meister. Is she wearing a stretch fabric? Jersey? What is this disaster? Just because you're a big girl doesn't mean you have to dress like a hobbit. Fire everyone.

Jackie Weaver in Rani Zakhem. Who thought this was a good idea? You're 65, let's give you an awkward waistline and put those boobies on a shelf. What the hell?

Kristen Stewart in Reem Acra. This is less about the dress and more about Kristen herself. HOW DOES ONE RUIN REEM ACRA?! Posture, that's how. And for all that is holy, get some concealer.

Helen Hunt in H&M. H&M? Okay, okay. I applaud you for going low brow at the Oscars, I really do. The color is pretty, but it is just so wrinkled! And boring.

Honorable Mentions: The dresses that were not bad, but not quite right.

Jennifer Lawrence - Pretty and unexpected, but the fabric is just so boring and quilt-like.
Kristen Chenowith - Beautiful. Love the sheer neckline & beading, just not amazing.
Amanda Seyfried - Something's not right. The fabric? The neckline? Can't put my finger on it.
Halle Berry - She looked stunning, but the shoulder pads have got to go.
Jennifer Garner - The ruffle is fun and different, but the dress is ill-fitting and gives her no shape.

What were your favorite and least favorite Oscars gowns?

Hello, Hello and a Big Ugh to 2013.

Sooooo... hi! How are ya? Haven't seen you since 2012! It's been a while! Happy New Year!

What have I been up to since I last came around waaay back in November? Everything and nothing at the same time. Do you ever feel like that? Just busy and overwhelmed while still accomplishing almost absolutely nothing? Because that's how I feel right now. And for a while. I'm in a rut, I think. That or I should just take up drinking as a hobby.

We just bought a new home, and while I love it, I could almost swear to you that it's cursed. Or that it has cursed our lives some how. There are so many things that need to be done, all of them are expensive and we don't exactly have the budget to cover $5k+ worth of updates, changes, and fixes. And of course, the problem is that neither of us has the patience to wait until we do have an extra $5k in between our couch cushions. So we wait and we stress. And we stress some more. And then when we do have extra money to get the pool refinished/a new couch/the siding fixed/a new garage door/what have you, then we file our taxes and owe the IRS a bajillion dollars for the first time ever. Thanks America. Or we have to get $800 brakes for our car. In the same month. I wish I was exaggerating. Goodbye money. Goodbye hopes and dreams for our new home. Hello ramen noodles and depression.

Sorry my first post back is a total downer, but... UGH. That's all I have left in me. I'm ready for 2013 to be over already. Give me my 2012 back. Give me some happy pills. Funny story- when I'm on the phone, I doodle. This is what I doodled yesterday:

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

Anyone else out there having a rough start to 2013? I want a redo.

Home: The Master Bedroom Reveal

Finally! One part of our house is viewable. Notice I did not say "done"- it's most definitely not done. But the walls are painted, the furniture is where it should be, and it's somewhat decorated. Yay!

Before we get to the reveal, first, a little montage of what still needs to be done, so you can, you know, visualize... or something:

These have yet to be purchased, but I plan on putting them above the bed, on top of the fabric draping. You know, whenever that gets done. Now onto the big reveal:

Welcome. Obviously the dogs have made themselves at home.

After deciding between 5 different shades of purple-ish, we finally went with Benjamin Moore's "Mauve Desert". It's kinda pinky/purply/mauvey/magical.  In the morning it looks pinky-cinnamon and in the evening it turns into a moody blueish-purple. In love.

I just got these nightstands in the mail about a week ago. How wonderful is the branch base and that mercury glass top? Obsessed. Before that I was using my laudry basket. For shame.

This is just a little corner to the right of my closet, I want to build it out with a few more antique frames and mirrors. Lord knows I love a gallery wall.

Our ultra heavy dresser that M and I hauled up the stairs ourselves. Notice the paint swatches near the lamp in the foreground- we've picked a master bath color, too! Hopefully someday we'll get around to actually painting it!

I clearly need better storage for my bracelets.

And this is Scout saying get out of my bedroom.

Thanks for stopping by! On to the next project...

Holidaze

Well, well, well, hi there. It's been a while. You know, house, holidays, yadda, yadda, yadda. I'm not even going to bullshit you. Life is crazy, and I know I won't be posting as much as I used to. I need to get real about that so I won't feel guilt ridden when I go for weeks without posting. I've decided to focus on living my life a little bit more, instead of being stuck behind a camera and then subsequently a computer screen.

We had a fantastic Halloween party. The decor was fun (I DIYed that wreath up top), the food was great, the company was awesome, the costumes were fantastic, and not a picture was taken during the party. I was too busy laughing, drinking, making sure my wig wasn't falling off, and playing flip cup like a college student.

Thanksgiving was a small 5 person affair for which I whipped up a traditional Thanksgiving feast, all by myself, like a pro. I even made homemade pies- a pumpkin cheesecake with candied pecans and a salted caramel apple pie with crumb topping! And again, I took no photos of the spread or carving the turkey. I actually had to stop myself from grabbing my camera, but I need to get back to enjoying my life, not documenting it like I'm on some reality TV show. Please tell me I'm not the only one who gets this way about blogging?

I hope everyone had a wonderful time spending Halloween and Thanksgiving with their loved ones.

Until next time!

Color Quandry

Alternately titled: Color Quandy and a Craigslist Addiction.

I really need to stop buying things from Craigslist. I can't have a Craigslist furnished home. A piece here and there, okay, cool. But this needs to stop.

Craigslist in the sitting room:

$100. Still need to paint that trim white. I've decided on white. I'm just so scared to ruin it.

Craigslist above the fireplace:

$55. Thought about painting this white, too, but I love the patinaed gold.

And our newest piece, a Craigslist TV stand:

$90. Love the shape, but it desperately needs to be painted. That butter yellow color is so shitty. Which brings us to my color quandry.

Everything in that room is dark- a huge black-brown leather sectional, a black coffee table with mirrored trim, the gold mirror (above) is going above the fireplace in that room, and I'm in the process of painting a wooden table gold around the edges and possibly staining the top a dark walnut. So what the hell color do I paint this?

Ideas so far:

What would you even call this color? Jade? I don''t know, but I really like love it.

And then there's this, similar to the above, but brighter and a bit more emerald.

Or we could go with the color that we painted our dining room, Martha Stewart's Plumage- a deep, almost navy, teal.

And what about powder blue?

Or I could just be a punk and go with white, but I'd really, really, like to go with a bolder color since there is literally no color in the living room as of now. What say you, dear readers?
